One misfortune after another befalls Thiu. He loses his mother first. Then a buffalo named Nam-Oi, who was like family, too passes away. With both gone, Thiu feels totally alone and overcome with grief. But things begin to change gradually. Under the watchful eye of a generous local monk, he finds calm strength in caring for Thui, Nam-Oi’s orphaned calf. Thiu starts to recover gradually.
He then meets Nuengruethai, a sweet and compassionate woman whose generosity fills the need in his life. Suradet, Nuengruethai’s envious fiancé, snatches and sells Thui as their relationship deepens. Thiu has to compete against the unbeaten champion, Jao Ruay, in a high-stakes buffalo race in order to retrieve the calf.
